The golden mantella, Mantella aurantiaca, is found in only a few locations in Madagascar. This species lays its eggs on land in moist substrate near water. After hatching, the tadpoles must wriggle down to the water. It is heavily impacted by small scale agriculture and its remaining habitat will soon shrink more due to the development of a nickel mine in almost a third of its remaining habitat.
